Effect of plasma nitriding and AlCrVN coating on friction-wear properties of structural steel – POSTER

Chien Huu Nguyen - University of Defence (Czech Republic)

The paper deals with the evaluation of the influence of plasma nitriding, AlCrVN coating and duplex coating on the wear resistance of 16MnCr5 structural steel. The AlCrVN coating was deposited on both base untreated material I on a surface that was plasma nitrided. During the testing, the chemical composition, the course of the microhardness of the nitrided layer, changes in the surface roughness parameters were verified, and a wear test was performed using the ball-on-flat test on a Bruker Universal Mechanical Tester 3 (UMT-3). The results show that the wear resistance was significantly improved by the duplex coating. The nitrided layer formed a very suitable transition layer between the soft substrate and the thin hard coating. Plasma nitriding significantly improved the adhesion of the AlCrVN coating by more than 95%.
