Distortion after surface hardening of steels

Hájek Jiří - ZČU v Plzni (Czech Republic)

Distortions or dimension changes are very important things during the carburizing process. Therefore, for the carburizing process to remains productive and economical, it is crucial to mininimize distortion. The aim of the experiment was to compare three carburizing processes. The comparison was based on measurement of dimension changes, residual stresses, microstructures and hardness. All these parameters are very important and can be used to compare the quality of the carburizing process. The most commonly used carburizing steels for experiment are C15, 16MnCr5 and 15niCr13. Stress in the surface was analyzed by X-ray strain gauges. For measure of wear “PIN-on-DISC“ test was used.
